Pilot production of the 8-part set: Long-distance double-decker train RABe 502

The new long-distance double-decker trains (FV-Dosto) of the SBB connect the different regions of Switzerland. 62 type RABe 502 train sets have been ordered so far, which makes them the largest train fleet in SBB's long-distance traffic. They are in serrvice in many parts of Switzerland and their daily timetables include the train stations of Geneva, Zurich, St Gallen and Basel.

ROCO is, of course, up to the challenge such a prestigious train poses, and is not shying away from the comprehensive construction work that is necessary to produce an outstanding model (Art. No.: 7700007, 7710007, 7720007).

Even at this stage, the result looks very promising: Like in the original, the coaches of the 8-part set feature several optical differences. The differences between the coaches are reproduced authentically, on the exterior as well as on the interior. This demanded on enormuous effort from mould and tool making.

This major project is nevertheless progressing well, and a few days ago, pilot production took place at the ROCO plant in Gloggnitz (AT). Its purpose is to get a running sample and to control all parts for fitting accuracy, quality and a correct visual appearance.
Samples of all 8 coaches have been assembled, and comprehensive check operations are underway now. The fitting accuracy of the parts and the accuracy of the injection moulding tools are checked again and compared to the real prototype. Numerous test runs are also scheduled.

In the following newsletters, we will tell you more about all the differences and the comprehensive tests.

Please note that they show samples and not the final version of the product!
